New Features of the GOP Congress

We have only dealt with the GOP congress on a national level for a little over a week and already they have taken big steps to change reality. Living in Michigan, we have experienced some of their tactics for much longer. It is surprising how good they are at institutionalizing their beliefs! The depressing thing is that many of the things they are doing sound too much like an evil villain in a movie for normal people to even think it is true!

Abortion

The Republican machine is at work in many states restricting abortion rights.  Well, it seems they forget a crucial thing.  Roe v Wade was not  totally about just abortion, it was about an epidemic of horrific deaths of mothers, wives, sisters and daughters when they did not have access to legal abortion.  The horror was so overwhelming.  Those who do not remember history are destined to repeat it.  And these legislators are attacking abortion to the exclusion of doing the work of government.   Great job and I hope it isn't someone you care about that opens your eyes to the misery you are enacting, but for many of these unthinking holier than thou folks it will.  That's why we have Roe v Wade.

Solution

The gun debate is raging.   What to do, what to do?  The proposals call for background checks for everyone and a ban on assault weapons.  Great, but Republicans will block some if not all legislation being proposed.  What should we do about devices that account for 32,000 American deaths per year, or the equivalent of ten 9-11's?  Well, after 9-11 we went after the culprits and tried to wipe them out.  Certainly something as horrific as ten 9-11's deserves our attention.  The answer is simple...no guns period.  It's not going to happen any time soon, if ever, but it actually is the only sane solution.   How disturbing to see such an outcry from the right about baby steps to stem the mass shootings that occur around the country with alarming regularity;  what absolutely disgusting disregard for the sanity of humanity.
